Steve Marks Unveils “Higher Marks for Oregon’s Environment”
First in the “Higher Marks” series of major policy initiatives
(Salem, OR) – Today,
Steve Marks, Democratic candidate in Oregon’s 5th Congressional
District, released the first in a series the “Higher Marks”
policy initiatives. Higher Marks for Oregon’s Environment is a
wide-ranging environmental policy and action plan that addresses several
critical issues facing Oregon’s environment.
“Higher Marks for Oregon’s Environment is a comprehensive strategy to
restore our environment and protect our natural resource heritage, while
sustaining our economy,” said Marks. “It is imperative that our next
Representative in Washington have an extensive knowledge of
environmental issues, not just in Oregon, but on a global scale. From
combating global warming to sustaining our natural resources like salmon
and timber, our next Representative will have to make decisions on
serious issues facing our environment,” continued Marks.
The plan outlines Marks’ positions on a series of environmental issues
important to Oregon’s future. The “Higher Marks” plan addresses the
following critical environmental areas:
• The necessity to reduce global warming
• Investing in renewable and sustainable energy sources
• The restoration and sustentation of Oregon’s fisheries and ocean
resources
• Caring for the Willamette River System and restoring its health
• Sustaining timber-dependent rural communities
• Developing sustainable agriculture
• Protecting Oregon’s special places
“Our state and our nation face significant environmental challenges now
and in the coming decades. We must act now to protect our future and
ensure the survival of our people and our planet,” continued Marks. “My
Higher Marks for Oregon’s Environment policy and action plan will give
voters a sense of the type of leadership on environmental issues they
can expect from me in Washington. When it comes to saving our
environment, change starts right here in Oregon.”
