Steve Marks
Steve Marks was raised in the Southern Oregon town of Sutherlin. Steve
received his Bachelor of Science degree in Community Services and Public
Affairs from the University of Oregon in 1983, and went on to earn his
Masters degree in Public Policy and Management in 1986. Simultaneously,
he worked as one of the key advisors to then Senate President John
Kitzhaber, from 1985 through Kitzhaber’s term as Senate President, which
ended in 1993.
When
Kitzhaber decided to run for Governor, Steve moved over to become a key
policy advisor on the Kitzhaber ‘94 campaign and worked for the campaign
from September of 1993 through the election and transition.
For
six and a half years, Steve served as the Governor’s Senior Policy Advisor,
helping the Governor coordinate the overall policy agenda and providing
policy advice on such important issues as public safety, education,
telecommunications, transportation, and natural resources. Later he
served as the Governor’s Chief of Staff.
Recently, he has
been working as an advocate for the
Archimedes Movement, founded by John Kitzhaber to address the fundamental problems in our health care
delivery systems. He also represents economic and
agricultural interests in Oregon.
